Jo Anne Brown

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Jo Anne Brown of Calgary on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the age of 58 years. She died peacefully in her sleep at home.

Jo Anne was born July 27, 1959 to William and Beverley Cowton in Brampton, Ontario where she grew up with her two sisters Bobbi and Carrie. She met David Brown in high school and they married a few years later on June 18, 1982. Together they had three beautiful children, Nicole, Tyler, and Olivia. The family moved to Calgary from Toronto in the summer of 1996 where they have lived since, except for a two year period in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jo Anne was an artist at heart and graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1983. She went on to make beautiful works over the years through painting, bookbinding, floorcloths, photography, knitting and many other crafts. She had an avid interest in all types of art and design, and had worked in those fields for many years and had participated in many Arts and Crafts shows.

She enjoyed keeping a lively circle of friends and was a part of many groups over the years – knitting clubs, book clubs, aqua fitness just to name a few. She thrived on bringing people together and was always an active member of any group she was in.

Jo Anne is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband, David Brown, their three children, Nicole Brown (recently married to Scott Bishop), Tyler Brown and Olivia Brown, and her sisters Bobbi Green and Carrie Cowton.

She was predeceased by her mother and father Beverley and William Cowton.

A visitation will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 – 4 Street N.W, Calgary) on Thursday, December 7th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

The funeral service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 – 4 Street N.W, Calgary) on Friday, December 8th at 2:00pm.
