John Randall Bryant (Randy) passed away early in the morning on December 31, 2020 in the Okotoks Foothills Country Hospice with family by his side. He passed peacefully and can now be at peace after a nine month battle with cancer behind him.
Randy was born on June 5, 1953 in Edmonton, Alberta to Dan and Velma Bryant and was the second child of four. He met his wife Debbie Cripps in high school and married her a year after graduation on September 9, 1972. From that day forward they were a team to contend with. Randy built a construction business with Deb by his side managing the fine details of the business while raising their three children Treena born June 29, 1976, Jarod November 14, 1979 and Derek August 24, 1982. Building homes from the ground up, planning and executing renovations, managing repair projects such as siding and roofing where his specialty. He re-sided a huge old barn in Millarville that gave him great satisfaction. Whenever a job needed to be done in the family he was there to do it properly, to code and for a very reasonable cost. For a short time he left the Reno scene and started and ran a window washing business while working with his son-in-law Jason and his nephew Bryan. He missed the Reno business, so sold it to Jason and returned to helping others with any household projects.
Randy was a man of faith and took his role as mentor to others very seriously. Always keeping in mind the importance of his relationship with others in the forefront. He had the “gift of gab” as a true Bryant does but Randy had it perfected. The family teased him and had wagers going on how long it would take him to say good-bye at the door when leaving from a family event. He met regularly with a men’s prayer group, which he valued greatly and spoke highly of the friends he met there. Scuba diving was a real passion for him. He took many opportunities to find a tropical holiday during our frigid months of January or February to fit in a dive or two with his children and friends. He had a way of a analyzing the golf game like no other person you would meet. He loved the game and reviewed every shot he and others made in detail, usually with a dramatic sense of humor. There are so many happy memories from summer holidays spent in Fairmont with his sister’s family, summer BBQ’s, and family gatherings at Christmas. His love of life, his positive outlook and sense of humor will be something we will all miss greatly.
Randy will be missed by his wife Debbie; his children Treena Primmer (Jason), Jarod Bryant (Shawna), and Derek Bryant; his grandchildren, Jaxson, Jayda, Shaelynn, Mckale, and Kaia; his siblings Richard Bryant (Heather), Sharon Adolph, and David Bryant (Val); his siblings-in-law Rob Cripps, Wayne Cripps (Deb) and Mike Cripps (Barb) and his many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff for the support they received from the High River Hospital Cancer Center, the Tom Baker Clinic, South Calgary Campus and the Foothills Country Hospice. These front line workers have many challenges to face each day providing medical care but the pandemic restrictions have made their jobs so much more challenging. The family can’t thank them enough for the above and beyond care they received during this very challenging time in their lives.
With COVID restrictions, we are unable to have a celebration of life for Randy. Our hope is to be able to do that soon, we will keep you informed about these details as they arise.
