Jozefa (Josephine) Trzeciak passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the age of 98. Jozefa was born in Podskwarne-Kuflew, Poland. She moved to Warsaw at a young age where she worked as a nanny and cleaning passenger trains. After the Nazi Invasion of Poland in 1939, she was taken to a Nazi forced labour camp in Germany, where she remained until the camp was liberated by the British in 1945. She immigrated to Canada in 1947 under a Displaced Person work sponsorship program. She remained employed at that job until her retirement. Jozefa enjoyed visiting friends and family, travelling, long walks, gardening, sewing, nature and cheering on the Flames and Stampeders.
Jozefa will be lovingly remembered by Adam and Cynthia Medrek, Caitlynne Medrek, Matthew Medrek, Dr. Ursula and Erhard Kiefer, Dana Kiefer and Michael Dixon, Paul Kiefer and Alexis DeMong, Jolanta Nowik and Wojciech Wislawski, Daniel Nowik and Denise Warnke-Nowik, and Brieanna, Bronwyn and Sebastian Nowik. She will also be remembered by many friends and relatives in Canada and Poland.
A special thank you to all her doctors, nurses and support staff, and to Carewest Royal Park for their attention, patience and supportive care.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 3Z3, on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Section of Queens Park Cemetery.
