Kay was born in England to Herbert Walter and Dorothy (Bolter) King and passed away at 89 in Calgary. Kay grew up in London and came to Canada in 1945 as wife to Gun Sergeant Hugh Alastair Swinton. Loved and sadly missed by her children Valerie (Noel), Hugh Jr. (Elaine) and Pamela, grandchildren Justin and Ashley Swinton, Amber Lomer (Robert), Zoe Lomer (Mark), Robin Elleker (Shauna), Lindsay Yarmon (Daniel) and Daniel Elleker and sisters-in-law Audrey, Connie, Shirley, Lorna (John) and Barbara. She is also mourned by cousins, nieces and nephews in England, Canada and the U.S. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Alastair, her brother Adrian and sister Hazel. A bright and artistic woman, Kay excelled at drawing, painting and knitting. She took pleasure in crossword puzzles until her last months. She had a great love for animals and nature which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was deeply interested in economics and politics and was active in the early days of the consumer movement in the early 1960’s. Coming to Canada after having survived the hardship and bombings of the war, she had much to adjust to as a young war bride and mother in a new country. We honour the perseverance and strong spirit that enabled her to make a life in Canada. Her last year of life was enriched by new friends Terry Gorieu and Margaret Reynolds to whom the family is so very grateful. We would also like to thank those at the Chinook Care Centre for their friendship and care, and the staff on Unit 81 at the Rockyview Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days.
Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family in the Guest Book section found adjacent to this biography.
