The world is a poorer place today with the peaceful passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ken Croft, in his 77th year. Ken was born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 24, 1946 the only child of loving parents, Albert Ward Croft and Sarah Jane Croft, who predeceased him. His early education took place in Edmonton and he went on to receive his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington. Upon completing his education, Ken moved to Calgary where he enjoyed a long and successful career in the investment side of the oil and gas industry, accumulating many good friends and colleagues along the way.
Ken had many interests in life but was probably most passionate in his love for the game of golf and the collection of Canadian art. He was a longtime member of Pinebrook Golf & Country Club in Calgary and Whitefish Lake Golf Club in Whitefish, Montana where he kept a home in Mountain Harbor Estates for many years. In addition, he terrorized the golf courses of southern Arizona from his winter home in Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona.
Collecting Canadian art was also one of life’s greatest delights for Ken and he became quite knowledgeable in the field, with a keen eye for very beautiful works. Ken loved nothing more than attending the various art auctions and galleries in and around Calgary and in the process assembled a truly outstanding home gallery of his own.
Ken encountered more than his fair share of obstacles and difficulties throughout his life time but always faced each and every one with patience, humility, good humor, determination and courage which always were, and will always continue to be, a source of admiration and inspiration for all of his many friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Sleep well old friend for your life’s journey has now come to an end. You will certainly be greatly missed and long remembered fondly by us all.
Thanks are extended to Dr. Wong and the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff of Unit #38 at the Peter Lougheed hospital in Calgary.
At Ken’s request, no funeral service will be held but a celebration of his life will be hosted at a time and place to be announced at a later date. If you would like to be notified, please send an email request to [email protected] for details. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor to the Children’s Cottage Society or to the charity of your choice are encouraged.
