Leroy Gene Rau

Leroy Gene Rau passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the age of 82 years. Born on November 24, 1940 to parents John and Elfrieda, Leroy and his older brother Alvin were raised on a farm in Crossfield, Alberta.

Initially he worked as a welder, then he reeducated himself as an electronics technician. While he worked at Frank’s T.V, he was introduced to future wife Muriel on a blind date. He and Muriel married in 1968, a marriage of love that would exceed 54 years. He was the proud father to their two children Neil and Owen.

Leroy went on to have a life long career at SEARS where he made a network of friends that would last beyond his retirement. Leroy was an avid pilot. His many hobbies including tinkering, repairing and fabricating anything mechanical or electrical. He enjoyed camping, traveling and socializing with family and friends. Always kind, smiling, and friendly to others Leroy will be missed by many.

Leroy is survived by his wife Muriel, son’s Neil and Owen (Aggie), grandchildren Ian, Kyle and Adam as well as numerous cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents John and Elfrieda and brother Alvin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Fosters Garden Chapel, 3220-4 Street N.W, Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, January14, 2023 at 10:00am.

Interment to follow at Crossfield Cemetery.
