Lila was born on the farm near Donalda to Archibald and Rhoda Whamond. She grew up working with her mother tending the house and garden, and it was there she was taught how to prepare delicious food and how to open her home and heart to others. She put those skills to use, baking, hosting, cooking in a lifelong ministry of care for those God put in her path.
Lila married Lloyd and together they raised their family in Red Deer and later in Calgary. She was a hard worker, always on the go, with a keen business sense. Her generous spirit made her home the hub of hospitality. Neighbours, relatives, friends, were all drawn to her house, right up to the day she died. Lila loved her family: Children; Kim, Duane, Shane (Rhonda), Doug (Sheila); her 6 grandchildren; her 9 great-grandchildren; her sister Rhoda (Larry) and brother Roy (Joyce); and a community of special nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She now joins her husband Lloyd, her sisters Dorothy(Harold) and May(Ray), brother Archie(Edna), her parents and all those family and dear friends who have gone before, for a well deserved rest, for a “good and faithful servant”.
A Memorial Service will be held at her church that was so dear to her - Oak Park Church of Christ 11263 Oakfield Drive SW Calgary on July 13th at 1:00.
