Ludwig “Lu” was predeceased by his beloved wife, Amalie in 2009. Ludwig Johann Hein was born in Punsk, Poland on June 16, 1924 and passed away at the age of 94. He is survived by his daughters Rita (Basil), Ingrid (Alex) and Suzin; his grandchildren Josh, Becky and Alexandra (Andras), Julianna (Evan) and Andrew (Lisa); great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Traudel and Elaine; nephew Herbert in Germany; Vivian, his dear friend and Rebecca, his caring volunteer of many years.
Almost 95 years of living Lu has had a remarkable life full of hard work, saving and investing, achievements, challenges and many adventures; a business man always. His passions included his family, his businesses, stamp and coin collecting, real-estate, travelling, dancing and in later years before falling ill he enjoyed the weekly outings to the Farmer’s Market, the Berry Farm, going for long river walks, enjoying a lunch out or just running errands with us. Always a gentleman, kind, helpful, generous, funny, interesting and full of life!
Lu was very proud of his three daughters and always said the Three Sisters Mountains near Canmore were a monument to his girls. Ever since we were little girls dad always told us, “You can’t improve the beauty of a natural flower” and those words have stuck with us forever. Thank you dad for all of your valuable advice, you inspired us to work hard, to never give up and to reach for the stars.
The family of Ludwig Hein wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff at Bethany Riverview. We are forever thankful for the love and care our dad received from the entire team on the fourth floor. A special thank you to Chaplain Katie Hayman for her kindness, warmth and thoughtfulness, all of which helped make an extremely difficult time more manageable.
Ludwig’s kind nature, generosity and eternal optimism will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched.
