September 29, 1928 – January 16, 2017
On Monday January 16, 2017, our beloved Lydia Such was peacefully ushered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour. Lydia was born in Borki, Poland, and emigrated from Germany in 1951 with her family to work two years on a sugar beet farm near Picture Butte, AB. They then moved to Calgary where she worked at the General Hospital with her sisters. Lydia married her husband Wolfgang on November 9, 1955 and they lived and worked in Trail, BC, and Mayo, YK, before returning to Calgary to start their family and business ventures; she also devotedly cared for her special needs son Raymond. Lydia played a key role in the family business of construction, property management, and game farming. Lydia was always full of energy and joy, and loved to share her hospitality, cooking and fellowship. Lydia most enjoyed time with her family, and especially loved the time spent with her seven grandchildren. She travelled with her family across North America and abroad and later in life was able to make many foreign trips. Lydia was a member of Highwood Lutheran Church since 1965. Lydia was small in stature but had a big heart and contagious warm smile. Caring for those around her was who she was. Even in later years when failing memory plagued her, she still possessed the wonderful gift of laughter and sharing joy with those around her. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Wolfgang, daughter Barbara (Gerry), and sons Raymond and Robert (Gudrun), her grandchildren: Bronson, Michael, Brett, Riaan, Stefan, Liana and Téa; her sister Anella Kulaots, brother Fred Tober, and her nieces and nephews: Margaret, Marlene, Dan, Caroline, Marilyn, Sandy, Jackie, Tim, Ingrid, Irene, Ron, Evelyn, Cheryl, Kathy, Kevin, and many more extended family. She was predeceased by sisters Hedwig and Elsa, and brothers Ted, Ed, and Sig. A funeral service will be held at Highwood Lutheran Church, 419 Northmount Dr. NW, Calgary, AB, on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Michael Wellman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Lydia’s name can be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 600-177 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0W5. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
