M. Robert "Kirby" Kirby

Obituary of M. Robert "Kirby" Kirby
IN THE CARE OF

Foster's Garden Chapel Funeral Home & Crematorium

May 28, 1940, Nokomis, Saskatchewan – February 2, 2024, Calgary, Alberta

Kirby passed on Friday, February 2, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 83 years. He spent his last days in the warm embrace of his devoted wife, Elaine; his courageous, selfless sons, Ian and Tyler; his compassionate, beautiful daughter-in-law, Tasha and his two amazing, much loved granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha, all of Calgary.

A graduate of the University of Manitoba, (Bachelor of Architecture, 1967) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (Master of Architecture, 1970), Kirby spent the bulk of his career as a Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Calgary as well as lending his time and expertise to many community groups not only in Calgary but throughout Alberta and Canada.

We can keep Kirby’s memory alive by following his example. Lend a helping hand, give guidance and support, help others to recognize their value and fulfill their potential.

“Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood. Make big plans, aim high, and hope and work.” Daniel Burnham, Architect, Chicago World’s Fair 1933.

As per Kirby’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.
