It was an honor and blessing to be Mom's daughter in law. She was always kind and giving without expecting anything in return. She was fiercely independent and didn't like to bother anyone. She had her own strong opinions and ideas of how to live her life. I admire her being able to find happiness just living a very simple life.

love you Mom.

Facebook post:
My Grandma Eng, at the age of 98, graduated from mortal life early Saturday due to COVID complications. Early in her life, she courageously fled communist China in a boat with her young son, my father, to join my Grandfather in Canada. She once said one of the memorable parts was eating Jello for the very first time on the airplane and the most terrifying was when my father cried in the boat as they were fleeing. In Canada, she and my Grandfather had 7 more children.

She was an extremely hard working, resourceful, practical, talented woman who sacrificed so much. She had a huge backyard garden for many years. She loved to cook her garden produce and creatively adjusted meals when we visited with a more American twist just for us. She could sew, knit, or make anything (my favorite pillow was one that she made from an old cloth rice bag filled with tiny pieces of foam). She was a woman of great faith. As a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she faithfully attended Church meetings when her health allowed even though English was not her native language. She lived very simply but was so very generous and loved her family.

I am grateful for her example and for my memories of being with her. I love her and will miss her. I will always remember her cute little laugh. I hope she is smiling and laughing now and is happily reunited with her husband and other family members in heaven.

Grandma leaves behind an incredible legacy, having lived a life full of love and dedication for her family. She was always more concerned with everyone else's wellbeing and put our comforts in front of her own. Her entire life was dedicated to her children and grandchildren and we will miss her dearly.

I loved visiting Grandma and Grandpa when I was a child. Grandma also wanted us to "Eat more! Eat more!" and she cooked amazing food, like sesame balls and potato soup. I remember how cool it was to get to eat hot dogs for breakfast and grind wheat in her basement. Grandma also loved treating us to big Chinese banquets. While she was generous to others, she was also very frugal. I remember one time she scolded Tim because he was pouring water out of the pot into the sink, after boiling potatoes. She then saved the water so she could water her garden. Thank you, Grandma, for teaching me about kindness, generosity, and frugality. We love you!

Dear Eng Family,

My heart goes out to you as you deal with the passing of your mother. She was a very good friend to my mother and I loved to hear news about her children that my mother passed onto me after long telephone conversations with Mrs Eng. She was a loving, kind and devoted mother and a wonderful lady. May she rest in peace. Our deepest sympathy and kindest thoughts, with love from Lilly and Mrs Wong

I remember having the Eng family over to our home when I was growing up. Such a loving family. Sis Eng was such a loving gracious gentle soul and her brilliant smile always cheered me. So grateful to know that Bro and Sis Eng have begun their eternity together. Love to the Eng family.

As the Bishop of the old Second Ward, Marilyn and I were so appreciative of this lovely family. We became good friends. Thanks, Wayne for bringing your Mom to Church as she aged.
