“The flowers turned their faces to smile at her”
Maria passed peacefully Sunday night at the tender age of 90 years.
She was a quiet woman with gentle sense of humour and a love of natural remedies and herbalism. She was at her happiest in the forest picking and drying herbs for medicinal teas, or hunting for wild mushrooms for her famous mushroom soup. She knew the names of every wild plant and flower she saw in the mountains and cultivated many in her garden.
She lovingly planted and tended large vegetable gardens for her family and generously supplied friends and neighbors with any extra crops she harvested
She and her husband Frank, the love of her life, lived their joy together in the mountains, whether hiking, watching wildlife, fishing or working side by side to build their weekend and retirement home.
She is survived by her daughters Renate and Bernadette, sister Leopoldine, and brother Helmut.
In lieu of donations or flowers, Maria would wish all to take a moment to stop and smell the flowers.

I thank you for inspiring in me a deeper love of nature and living things. We traveled together, spent time at the cabin in our adventures, and gardened together. Even when Frank wouldn't share your Gentian, you snuck a small patch to me. It wouldn't bloom for me until Frank's departure. Your smile and sharing nature will remain with me forever.

Renee, sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Remember playing in your backyard and her always bringing out cool drinks. Thoughts are with you.

My much loved mom. Will miss her terribly and incomprehensible that she is gone. The world is a sadder place without her bright light in it. Mom, where ever you are, may the sun warm your face, the flowers smile upon you and the birds sing your favourite songs. All my love.
