Maria passed peacefully Sunday night at the tender age of 90 years.
She was a quiet woman with gentle sense of humour and a love of natural remedies and herbalism. She was at her happiest in the forest picking and drying herbs for medicinal teas, or hunting for wild mushrooms for her famous mushroom soup. She knew the names of every wild plant and flower she saw in the mountains and cultivated many in her garden.
She lovingly planted and tended large vegetable gardens for her family and generously supplied friends and neighbors with any extra crops she harvested
She and her husband Frank, the love of her life, lived their joy together in the mountains, whether hiking, watching wildlife, fishing or working side by side to build their weekend and retirement home.
She is survived by her daughters Renate and Bernadette, sister Leopoldine, and brother Helmut.
In lieu of donations or flowers, Maria would wish all to take a moment to stop and smell the flowers.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
