Marian "Marnie" Arlene (Carse) Wilkins

September 26, 1936November 1, 2020

Marnie passed away peacefully on November 1, 2020 at Bow View Manor in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 84 years.

Marnie was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1936, and attended school there until she moved to Ponoka to train as a Registered Nurse at the Ponoka Hospital. She lived, worked and married in Ponoka and raised her three boys there until she moved to Calgary due to health reasons in 2016. While working at the General Hospital, GreatWest Feeds and the Ponoka RCMP detachment to support her family, she always found time to volunteer to make Ponoka a better place. She was quoted while accepting a local volunteer award; “volunteers lead with hearts, souls and minds”. Ponoka Minor Hockey, IODE, Toastmasters, the Ponoka Museum and Heritage Board, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Ponoka Town Council were just a few of her community commitments. She believed in giving more and taking less. She also believed everyone had a special talent; they sometimes just needed a little help to find it.

That said, Marnie’s biggest passion in life was her three boys and their families. She will be greatly missed by her sons Bill Wilkins (Kelly) and granddaughter Jenna (Pete) with great-granddaughters Daelyn and Parker, granddaughter Madison (Craig) and great-granddaughter Maris; Doug Wilkins (Sharon) and granddaughters Stefanie and Elizabeth and grandson Jesse (Alexa); Rick Wilkins (Paula) and grandsons Liam, Nate and Carter.

Marnie is survived by her younger brother Fred Carse of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret and father William, her brothers Bob and Bill and her sister Ruth.

The family would like to thank the heroic caregivers at Bow View Manor, their compassionate care of Mom is sincerely appreciated.

A family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Marnie’s favorite groups, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka, (Box 4115, Ponoka, AB T4J 1R5) or online at

Bill, Doug, Rick & families

Our sympathy in the loss of your Mother.
I had the highest regard for your Mother, I always wished she was my sister, which I had shared with her. I enjoyed our working years together, her at Great West Feeds and me at Parkland Fertilizer. She was either bossing or nursing one of my injuries. It was a great honour to know Marnie.
Here’s trusting you will remember your many memories of your Mother.

Our sympathy

I am one of the 4 daughters of Bob Carse (Aunt Marian's brother) who reside in the States and on behalf of our family, we send our thoughts and prayers to our cousins.
Aunt Marian and I share the same birthdate and she always made sure to remember me on our special day even though we had only met a few times and lived many miles apart! She was a wealth of comfort and advice when the US family was caring for her brother, Bob, dealing with Alzheimers and for that I will always be thankful for her love and caring.
May her loving and caring legacy live on and bring a smile to your heart.

I was stationed in Ponoka from 1982,to 1986 with the RCMP. Marnie was one of my favourites. She was always helpful and dedicated to her duties. Marnie was one of those people who was fun to be around, I remember her big smile well. God bless you Marnie. Rest In Peace.
