Marie was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Katerynych (1999) and brother George Skalozub (2017).
Born September 29, 1924 in Ukraine, Marie immigrated with her family to Saskatchewan in 1928 and grew up on a farm. Marie met Bill when he was in the Canadian military. She saw him in uniform and knew he was the one. Once married, they ran a service station in Strathmore, Alberta for ten years. Eventually, they settled in the Okanagan and spent many years in Vernon and Kelowna. Following the passing of Bill, Marie lived with family in Langley and Calgary.
Marie was a generous and loving person with a big smile and a bigger heart. She was blessed with a green thumb and loved gardening, always producing the most spectacular garden in the neighborhood. She also loved cooking and entertaining, preparing many savory meals for friends and family over the years. Though she struggled with dementia in her final years, her sweet spirit never changed.
As per Marie’s wishes, there will be no funeral. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, (800-7015 Macleod Trail SW, Calgary, AB T2H 2K6).
