It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Marie Anne Miller, age 73, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and mother-in-law. Marie was a friend to all.
Marie was born in Saskatoon Sk. September 17, 1950 to Karl and Ann Kurtze and lived her first 8 years on the family farm in Allan Sk. She obtained her schooling in Saskatoon and after graduating from high school began work with Canada Permanent Trust Co.
Marie married John Miller in 1972 and they moved to Edmonton to pursue their careers. There they had their son John William (Willie) and soon after their daughter Dawn Marie. They were transferred to Calgary where Marie remained for the rest of her life. Soon after arriving in Calgary Marie started her own day care business and loved the children she cared for. She later went on to work for Royal Lepage Reality and then Remax Reality working in the Administration Office and retiring in 2001.
Marie was an excellent home maker, loved to bake, cook and sew for her family and friends and took care of their every need. They had a home in Fairmont BC that they loved to visit especially during the summer months for golf and boating and of course entertaining family and friends. Marie and John spent many happy winters in Mesa, Arizona until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2021. She was an avid exerciser and made many dear friends at Curves in Calgary and later at the Southland Leisure Center gym.
Marie is survived by her loving husband John of 52 years, son Willie/Kim, daughter Dawn/Mario, and her 5 grandchildren, Tristan, Madison, Kate, Payton, and Carter, sister Karlene, brother Robert, brother-in-laws Len/Kathy, Duncan/June and many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents Karl and Anne Kurtze and her In Laws Buster and Mavis Miller all from Saskatoon Sk.
At Marie’s request there will be a private family funeral. In lieu of flowers the family would ask that if you so desire, please make a memorial donation in Marie’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Marie and the family would like to thank Dr. Karim and Nurse Sandra for their outstanding care over the past 3 years at the Baker Cancer Center. Also thank you to the Palliative Care nurses and Drs. that helped take such good care of Marie at home were she wanted to be until the end.
