Marjorie Jane Nelson passed away at the Beverly Center of Lake Midnapore, Calgary on the 25th of April 2015 at the age of 88 years. Marjorie is lovingly remembered by her children: Ted, Noel, Inga, and Doug Nelson. Her family and friends will miss her wit and her sense of humour. Marj (as her friends called her) had two grandchildren, Trevor Nelson and Chrissy Nelson-Schlechter, and one great grandchild, Peyton Schlechter. Marj was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Douglas Manville Nelson, and her brother, Edward Drew Glass.
Marj was always an adventurer. She moved out on her own at the age of sixteen, and travelled on a train from Toronto, where she was born, to Victoria. She had two boys from her first marriage, Ted and Noel Sinclair-Nelson; and she had a girl and a boy from her second marriage, Inga and Doug Nelson. She and her husband, Doug Nelson, moved to Ottawa where they worked until he exited the air force. The family of six also made their home in Claresholm, Swift Current, Lethbridge, and Calgary. Marj was a nurse for many years, and then an office clerk, handling resident accounts, for Alberta Health Services. She also owned and operated her own coffee shop at the old airport in Calgary. Marj was well-read, intelligent and a very capable Lady. May she rest in peace.
Marjorie’s family will hold a private gathering in loving memory of her while cremation is in the care of South Calgary Funeral Centre.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6A8
