Born and raised in Petruro, Mary immigrated to Canada with her family in the 1950s, carrying with her a deep love of family, tradition, and community. Known for her kind heart and generous spirit, she found her calling in the hospitality industry, working at the Palliser, The Bay and Westin Hotel, where her natural ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on all who met her.
In 1955, she married Gerardo, and together they built a life filled with simple joys — weekends spent dancing, enjoying the outdoors camping, and sharing picnics with family and friends. Mary was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. She was known for her homemade pasta, which brought everyone to the table, and she treasured every moment spent with her family.
Mary had a deep love for music and sports and was a devoted fan of the Calgary Stampeders and the Calgary Flames. Whether cheering passionately during a game or singing along to her favorite songs, she embraced life with enthusiasm. She developed a love for travel and enjoyed relaxing at the beach or spending time in the pool, always appreciating the simple pleasures of sun and water.
Above all, Mary’s greatest devotion was to her family. She was the heart of the Marra family — the first to call, the first to offer support, and always present in times of need. She cherished her siblings deeply and remained a steady source of strength and encouragement throughout her life.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her four children: John, Laura, Sandra (Nader), and Gerry (Andree). She was a proud and adoring Nonna to Victor (Brianne), Stephanie (Richard), James, Eric (Rava), and Jenna, and a beloved great-grandmother to Auston, Emma, and Este. She is also survived by her brothers, Fulvio and Fiore.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Adelina and Carmine; her brother, Orazio; and her sisters, Geraldine and Anna.
