Chin, May Chan passed away peacefully at the Wing Kei Care Centre on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the age of 92 years. May Chan Chin is survived by three sisters in Los Angeles and New York, her children Frank (Rosita), Rose (Bing Shing) and Alice, and her grandchildren Jason, Tamara, Jeffery, Kaisun and Eileen. She is predeceased by her husband Sun On Chin. May was born on November 22, 1919 in Toishan, Guangdong, China. Her father was a doctor in Toishan and the surrounding villages. She completed studies to become a teacher at the Toishan Girls’ College. During this time she met her husband and had three children. Due to her husband’s illness while working as Chief Engineer on an ocean liner docking in Japan, the family was able to emigrate from China to see him. In 1968, May and her son, Frank, immigrated to Canada, following the footsteps of her two daughters. May worked in textile factories in Montreal and New York until 1982 when Frank asked that she move to Calgary to help raise his newborn son so he and his wife could focus on their careers. From that point forward, May devoted the rest of her life to help raise her grandchildren, often taking them to Chinatown, the Calgary Stampede and the Devonian Gardens. Her love for her family was self-less and endless wanting nothing but the best for them and doing anything in her power to help them achieve their dreams. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 – 4th St N.W.) on Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral services will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. for friends and family.
