It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mee Yuk Mah announce the passing of our much-loved wife and mother in Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the age of 85 years.
Mee was born in Toishan, Kwantung, China, and immigrated to Canada in 1955. Mom and our dad, Kwok Ching (Tom), were married 1962 and settled in Drumheller, AB. This was where their life together began and where they started the foundation of our family. In 1970 they would return to Calgary, and for many years enjoy the love and support of a large close-knit family.
Mom lived a full life despite many health challenges. Her resilience and strong will surprised many, but not us. Gracious and humble, smart and funny, generous and kind, she dedicated her life to her children, always putting our needs above her own. Her love for her family had no limit; we will never be able to repay her for the endless sacrifices she made. The many lessons she taught us have been lasting and invaluable in navigating our own lives.
Mee will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 59 years, Tom, and their children, Susan (Victor), Lynda, Gary (Maria), and daughter-in-law Deborah. She was a wonderful, cherished Po-Po to Alexandra (Jared) and Stephanie (Shane) and, with the recent arrival of little Maeve, a proud, delighted great-grandmother. She leaves behind brothers Colin (Stella) Gee and Wing (Judy) Gee, brother-in-law, Ken Jang, and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. Mom was predeceased by her eldest son and her sister. Even though our hearts are broken, we are comforted knowing that she has now been reunited with her beloved Danny and her best friend Ann.
Our family would like to thank the first responders for their valiant efforts and compassion on the day of her passing. Your kindness at this most difficult time will not be forgotten. We would also like to express our appreciation to the many doctors and nurses that we entrusted with Mom’s care over the years. We are forever grateful for the gift of time.
Regrettably, due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private family service.
