Melvin Roy Stewart passed away on June 9, 2020 at the age of 59 years. He is survived by his children, Dylan Stewart and Victoria Chrysler (Douglas) of Calgary; his brother Murray of Regina; his sisters Maryann Chase (Jody) and Dian Wenzel (Brad) of Calgary; nephews, Dustin, Bradley and Jacob, his nieces Taylor, Shelby and Katie. He is also survived by his former wife and lifelong friend Cory. Mel was predeceased by his infant sister Rosemary, his parents Beaton and Jean.
Mel grew up in the Fredericton, N.B. area developing a love of the water, woods, nature and the great outdoors. He had a way with animals, passing that love onto his children.
Mel worked in the new home construction industry since arriving in Calgary in 1987. He was a talented carpenter starting a contracting company in 1989 where he both mentored and employed many over the years. Some suggesting working with him over a summer would convince you that finishing school was a better idea. Mel worked hard!
Mel will be remembered for his dry quick wit, tenacity and playfulness, often the prankster. His loyalty, generousity and commitment to his family and friends was unmatched.
Mel was not himself the last several years; his battle with addiction finally took his life so young.
A special thanks to Michelle, Ashley and the staff of the Clayton, Alpha House and related agencies.
A memorial will be held once Covid-19 restrictions ease and will be announced at a later date.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Calgary Alpha House Society.
