It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of, Michael A. Heigl, who passed away surrounded by loved ones in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the age of 68. Born on May 19, 1956, in St. Catharines, Ontario, he was a cherished father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.
Michael was a man of many joys, with one of his greatest loves being the peaceful art of fishing. Whether it was casting his line at a quiet lake, on a frozen pond, or tying flies, his heart was happiest when he was gone fishing. Fishing was more than a pastime for him—it was a connection to the world around him, a chance to reflect and spend time with those he loved. Many memories were made with family and friends on countless fishing trips, where his patience, wisdom, and favorite country songs flowed as easily as the water.
He was known for his gentle spirit, a steady hand, and an unwavering love for his family. Michael taught us all the value of hard work, resilience, and finding peace in the simple moments of life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the lessons he imparted and the love he gave so freely.
Michael is survived by his wife of 38 years, Robin Powell, three children, Bill, Samantha (Nathan), and Alexandria (Mark), four grandchildren (William, Taylor, June and Ryker) along with many close family members and dear friends.
Thank you to the palliative care team who came to the house, especially Lindsay V, Sarah M, Dr. Loftus, Dr. David and Monica K.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Michael is now casting his line in the greatest fishing spot of all, with peace and serenity at last. His family invites all who knew him to join in remembering a life well-lived.
