Millie Braun

Millie Braun passed away peacefully at home in Calgary on Thursday, July 18, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her loving partner Walter, children Barry (Susan), Brian (Lisa), Bob (Emily); step-children Connie, Wendy (Parker), Sherry, many grand and great-grandchildren and other extended family. Millie was predeceased by her first husband Bill Braun, younger siblings Karl and Helen, 6 older brothers, step-daughter Tracey and nephew Grant.

The family would like to thank her niece Kathy (Nancy) and children Meagan and Lauren for the unending love and care they provided Mom and Walter over the past few years.

Millie was raised on a farm near Viking, AB. After leaving school, she moved to Calgary where she worked in private homes, later becoming an efficient seamstress at United Apparel.

Millie met WWII veteran Bill Braun at a dance. He was a travelling salesman and he swept her off her feet. They married in 1949 and lived briefly in their “Honeymoon Shack” in Caroline, AB. The oil business took them to Weyburn, SK then back to Calgary where Millie owned and ran a drapery business. Their happy marriage ended when Bill died of cancer in 1993.

Walter Rogiani met Millie at a bereavement group and they became a common-law couple in 1995. They adored each other for the past 25 years. He introduced Millie to the game of golf and to the golfing family at Inglewood Golf Club. She was known as the ‘Lemon Pie Lady’, volunteering for the 2013 flood clean-up, and other local events. Millie and Walter enjoyed travelling in Canada and the US, taking cruises, visiting family and friends.

Millie will be remembered as a loving partner, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, trusted friend and neighbour, gardener, golfer, gourmet cook, generous hostess, seamstress, intense Crib player and outdoorswoman.

Cremation and interment has taken place, with thanks to Rick and Sara Ploc and their family and friends, for hosting a lunch after the interment.

A celebration of life is being planned for the fall 2019. Millie, dokud se znovu potkáme.
