Miloslavka Radenkovic

Miloslavka (Millie) Radenkovic passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2025. Millie was born to Dragisa and Jelica Petrovic in Bregovina, Serbia, on October 16th, 1935. She married Milan Radenkovic on January 19th, 1957. She spent the early years of her marriage living in the small mountain village of Kruskar, Serbia, where she helped support her family by managing the family farm. Millie worked in all aspects of the farm including shearing sheep, making clothes from wool she hand-spun, and planting and harvesting various crops. While in Serbia she had three children Vladanka (Valerie), Snezana (Suzanne), and Dragutin (Danny). In 1971 the family immigrated to Calgary where Millie taught herself English, learned to drive, and became a custodial supervisor at Chinook Centre where she worked for many years. During her life in Calgary, she returned to Serbia several times to visit family. She loved to travel and took numerous trips with friends and family including camping trips around Alberta and Washington state, and vacations in Cuba and Mexico. A favorite trip of hers was an annual excursion with girlfriends to Radium Hot Springs.

Her farming pride and expertise were exemplified by the large garden she nurtured in the backyard of her Queensland home. Here she grew an astonishing variety of fruits and vegetables. She is well remembered for her resourcefulness and her ability to solve problems. These included removing doors and windows from houses to rescue dogs, pickling and canning every fruit and vegetable she came across so as to not waste one bit, and planting a potted garden on her small balcony when she moved to her condominium.

For many years she was the primary babysitter for her grandchildren, as well as a beloved caregiver and nanny to several other families. She will be remembered for her love of family gatherings, especially an annual family picnic/reunion, her enjoyment of Serbian culture, and the unparalleled pita that she baked from scratch.

Her life is cherished and remembered by her husband, Milan Radenkovic, daughters Valerie (Dragan) Vasic and Suzanne Radenkovic (Roger Kelley), son Danny Radenkovic, brother Philip (Annette) Petrovic, granddaughter Kristina (Daniel) Wright, grandson Alex Vasic (Desaray Skretting), and great granddaughters Kendall and Teagan Wright. She will also be missed dearly by a large and loving extended family of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

We know she was joyfully greeted in heaven by her parents, brother Daca, sister Desanka, mother-in-law Jelica, and many friends with whom she is sharing coffee and planning a beautiful paradisiacal garden.

Services will be held on Thursday, May, 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Simeon Mirotocivi Serbian Orthodox Church, 16025 243rd Avenue East, Foothills , AB, followed by the burial at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 4th St. NW.
