Monica passed away peacefully at Dykeland Lodge Nursing Home on May 1, 2017 at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Halifax, N.S. and later moved to Toronto to complete her hairdressing training. She moved back to Halifax and joyfully married the love of her life William (Bill) Swinimer. Together they enjoyed time with their family and friends, camping, playing cards, square dancing and all things Christmas. Monica was not only an accomplished square dancer but also a sewer; she beautifully made all of hers and Bills square dancing outfits. She is predeceased by her mother Queenie Ellis (nee Mathieson); father Frederick Ellis; brother Ralph; sister Doreen and beloved husband William (Bill). Monica will be forever missed by her daughter Liza (Dartmouth); daughter Debbie (Calgary); sister Carol (Halifax); granddaughter Ashley and fiancé Gabe (Halifax) and great grandchildren Dustin and Lilly along with many other relatives. Interment and small graveside service was held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
