She was born in New Eltham, Kent England on August 8, 1925. Monica emigrated from England to Canada with her husband and young family, settling in Ancaster, Ontario in 1965. Despite challenges and limitations of declining health, Monica continued to find enjoyment in family, friends, food and festive occasions. Throughout her long life she enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, tennis, music and many canine companions. Monica was also a gifted knitter and all her family, young and old, enjoyed her creations.
Left to cherish their mother’s memory are daughters Joanna (Murray), Susan (David), Jane (Kevin) and son Tom (Monica). She was the beloved Nana of grandchildren Kate, Sandi, Emma, Jimmy, Sarah, Riley and Grant and great-grandnana of Charlotte (Charlie) and Rowan. Monica was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. John Tear Groves on January 31, 2005; mother Matthea Ovrehagen of Lillehammer, Norway, father Victor Sandy of London, England, brother Olaf Sandy from England and other much loved brothers and sisters-in-law in England, too numerous to name.
At her request no service will be held. Monica will be laid to rest with her husband John at St. John's Anglican Church cemetery, Ancaster, Ontario.
