Nancy was born September 13, 1946 in Toronto, Ontario, the younger of two daughters of Frank and Barbara Knapton. She grew up with a strong sense of family and often talked of the parties her parents would have with her aunts and uncles playing cards and had fond memories of summers spent in the Kawartha Lakes. Nancy pursued her professional career path in health care as a Radiation Therapist. She met Svein Carlsen at the cafeteria at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto in 1972 and they were married a year later. In their early years together, they lived in Toronto and Baltimore before settling in Saskatoon where they lived and raised their family for 32 years. Nancy worked part-time when their two children were young, allowing her to spend quality time with them and being involved in their activities and friends. Nancy loved to garden (beautiful backyard year after year), bake (lemon tarts were a family favourite) and quilt which kept her busy outside of running the household. After becoming a grandmother in 2009, Nancy made frequent trips to Calgary to visit her first grandchild, son and daughter in Calgary, and at the same time made new friends through swimming at the pool, followed by coffee and quilting retreats. In 2012, they moved to Calgary to be close to family and specifically the grandchildren, whom she loved so much.
Nancy was blessed with an outgoing and caring personality that allowed her to make friends and have personal conversations with anybody. Nancy had a great network of friends and work colleagues in Saskatoon and Calgary that meant so much to her and she would always be the first person to offer to help in anyway.
Nancy is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Svein Carlsen, son Chris (Jill), daughter Andrea (Trevor) and five grandchildren, Sasha, Tate, Ben, Vivian and Makayla. She is also survived by her sister Judy.
