Patricia Elaine Hicks (Nesbitt) passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Faye (Brian) McGeachy and brother Philip (Carol) Nesbitt, her children Angela (Tim) Mosco, Donna (Barry Barker) Hicks, and Tommy Hicks, her grandchildren Robert, Margaret, Alexandra, Ezra, Maya and Evan along with assorted step grandchildren in addition to cherished nieces and nephews, Grant, Jill, Chuck, Yvonne, Buddy and Jackie.
Pat was predeceased by her dad Robert and mom Myrtle Nesbitt, firstborn son Anthony and husband of 50 years John.
Pat will be dearly missed by many at Chartwell Harbours, her happy home for the past 9 years and all of her friends near and far.
She was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on November 13, 1941. Pat grew up in this tight knit, family filled community, attending school in Carmichael and Gull Lake and nursing school in Medicine Hat. There, her nursing student friend set her up with a blind date named John. They eloped in Milan, Italy on May 22, 1964, to her family’s surprise. After Angela was born and John left the Navy, they settled in Calgary where Donna and Tommy were born. She enjoyed a career in nursing after staying home to raise the kids and retired from the post-partum unit at the Peter Lougheed hospital in 2005.
Besides her family adventures, Pat loved the yearly “mystery” vacations they took with their closest friends, Myrtle’s girls’ weekends, dancing with the Daughters of the Nile, golfing, travelling across Canada with John - especially to BC to visit grandchildren, Faye and the ocean. From reunion gatherings to tea and lunches, Pat loved to connect with friends from all aspects of her life. She made her yard a garden oasis and found quiet time for herself by knitting and reading. Most recently, it has been revealed that Mom had a passion for and much luck gambling on “horses” at Chartwell, often inviting Grant and grandchildren to participate in the thrill of the race. Pat was a regular church service attendee and often led the fireside chats at her residence.
A service will be held on Saturday August 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Knox United Church, 4175 Price Ave, Gull Lake, Saskatchewan.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Cure SMA Canada at www.curesma.ca.
