Paul was born in the Drumheller Valley, where he and his brother Vince spent their childhood and youth. His father, Mike was an electrician in the coalmines and his mother Angela was a devoted mother and entrepreneur.
Paul had a rich early life with his brother, swimming in the Red Deer River, hiking the badlands and hunting. The family also ran the Star Movie Theatre in East Coulee. Paul would sell tickets and act as the theatre usher. In the summers, the coalmines would shut down and the family homesteaded on a parcel of land near Rimbey, Alberta. The log cabin they built still stands as a protected historical site and testament to early pioneer life.
Paul moved to Calgary after graduating high school where he attended the Provincial Institute of Trades and Art (SAIT). Paul became a diesel mechanic and after graduating, worked at Greyhound, holding that position his entire working life.
Shortly after graduating, Paul met his wife, Anne. They were married and had three children; Anna Marie, Michael, and Stephanie, all of whom are happily married living in Alberta. Paul and Anne purchased their first home in Calgary where they remained until each of their passing. In the couples later years, Paul was a devoted caregiver to Anne. On her passing, Paul became an active traveler, especially fond of bus tours and cruises.
Paul was a devoted father and was also active in community service. He served the Catholic Church, Development and Peace, and the Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club where he and Anne found years of joy collecting fossils and gemstones. They learned and enjoyed many hobbies through the club including faceting and carving.
Paul will be sadly missed by all those who knew him, especially his children and their families; Anna Marie (Brent) Smith, Michael Milo (Flordeliza Dayrit), and Stephanie (Ken) O’Brien. As well as by his grandchildren; Jasmine (Ahmed) Charkie, Gabriel, Noah and Jonas Milo and Mackenzie and Kaleb O’Brien. Paul is predeceased by his parents Mike and Angela, his brother Vince, as well as numerous family and friends.
