Phyllis was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 28, 1931 to Stuart and Etta Bird. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Home Economics degree in 1953.
Phyllis and Bill met at University and moved to Calgary soon after to start their family, settling into their home in Wildwood where they lived for 55 years. In the early years Phyllis was very active volunteering with The Girl Guides of Canada as a Commissioner, and with Meals on Wheels. Phyllis was active with the University Women's Club and in recent years she found her passion for quilting with the Bow River Quilters who recently awarded her a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Her focus on ensuring proper table manners were legendary, although it is still a work in progress for some. Until the end, she loved being outdoors in nature, at the Farmers Market or mastering a card game. She always had to stop to visit the neighbourhood cats. She cherished the many friendships she made in life.
Phyllis is survived by her four children and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William of 66 years and her sister Evelyn.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Ron Humphreys and Kim Polvi for their care and attention to Mom and the family over the years.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada through their website https://www.diabetes.ca/ in her name.
It was her wish to celebrate her life with family at a later date. There will be no service.
