After a brief battle with cancer our much loved husband, dad and special grandpa passed away February 12, 2014. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Libby), children Cathy (Myles) O'Connor, Kevin (Alanna) Brooks, Christie (Al) Krawchuk and eight grand kids, Logan, Owen, Morgan, Jenna, Avery, Brett, Libby and Blair.
Ray was a lifetime Calgarian and youngest of 12 children, born February 9, 1936 to Albert John and Henrietta Marion Brooks. He is survived by his siblings Stan (Connie), Mervin (Gerry), Maxine, Doris and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was the Vice-President of MacCosham Van Lines where he worked for 35 years prior to retirement. He and Libby were members of The Kinsmen Club for 16 years, forming many great friendships which last to this day. Ray was nothing if not a sportsman. He enjoyed a game of golf but his passion was hockey. His skill as a goalie earned him the nickname "Stingy." He played briefly for the Medicine Hat Tigers, then the Calgary Stampeders Hockey Club. He joined the Calgary Fire Department (they needed a goalie!) before he hung up his skates. His love of the game of hockey lives on in his grandsons and granddaughters. When they're at the rink or on the soccer field he'll always be watching.
Ray was a handyman extraordinaire to the benefit of everyone in his extended family. He was a “putterer” at home and in his beautiful backyard garden.
Ray's family wishes to extend a special thank you to his caring doctor, Doug Caine.
Friends are invited to join us from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20th at the Glencoe Club, 636 - 29th Avenue S.W. for a celebration of his life.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Alberta Children's Hospital, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8.
