Born in Puerto Barrias, Guatemala he moved at a young age to Guatemala city to live with his aunts and uncles. He attended Instituto Technico Vocacional at the university of San Carlos and graduated as an architect and engineer, working as a mining engineer for Exmibal/Inco and having his hard work recognized. Eventually this hard work provided him with the opportunity to bring his family to Canada, with Inco moving him to Thompson, Manitoba in 1982 where they spend a little over 8 years. In 1990 the family moved to Trail, B.C. which brought warmer climates enjoyed by the entire family.
Living in Trail provided Rene with the opportunity to raise chickens as well as grow his sizable vegetable garden, but eventually he moved to Calgary to be with 3 of his 4 children. In his later years he helped manage several buildings and did maintenance work but this also gave him the chance to embrace his love of travel. Any chance he got an invitation to visit a friend he would make the trip, having made trips to Toronto, Poland, Nicaragua, Cuba, Houston, Kelowna as his most recent ones. In his retirement he enjoyed Tango dancing, smoking Cuban Cigars and spending time outdoors camping and fishing. An avid reader he made his way through thousands of books and enjoyed catching movies whenever he could.
Having moved to Harris House where he still was able to live independently he enjoyed tending to his plants where he kept a small herb and vegetable garden. He also loved to cook for friends and family, and took every chance he got to try out new dishes both to make and just as something to enjoy.
René was loved by many friends and family, some friends even became family over the years. He was liked in his community, was a great conversationalist, always had an opinion and a great sense of humour, he was a very giving and generous person, and always willing to lend a hand or give advice.
