Bob passed away suddenly, in his sleep, in Twin Falls, Idaho at the age of 72 years. Bob will be forever loved and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Jane, of 50 years. They would have celebrated their 51st anniversary in April. His memory will live on in his sons, Doug and Ken (Jacquie) and by his cherished grandchildren, Isabelle and Kole. He is also survived by his brothers Pat (Kerry) Clayton, Don Paul, his sister Sue (Hank) Leeferink, sister-in-law Terry (George) Carrigan and by numerous nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Bob. He was pre-deceased by his father Albert (Bert) Clayton, mother Orma Paul and step-father Clyde Paul.
Bob was born and raised in Calgary. Bob and Jane raised their family in Lakeview for 38 years where many life-long friendships were made. Bob was an active member of the community, whether it was driving Buck Shot in the Lakeview Days Parade, coaching his son's hockey teams or flooding the ice. Bob started his career as a copy boy at the Calgary Herald in 1958 at the age of 15. After he graduated from Western Canada High School, he became an apprentice pressman at the age of 17. He had a fulfilling career in the pressroom at the Calgary Herald for 47 years. He retired as a day-shift foreman in 2005. Bob was highly respected by his peers and fellow workers. When asked if he was a writer with the paper he would reply with "NO...I am a printer." He was active in the retirees association until they moved to Mabel Lake, B.C. The family has many cherished memories of summers at Mabel Lake over the last 40 years. Bob & Jane made a permanent move there a few years ago. They have enjoyed time with many old friends and forged many new friendships. Bob was an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable hours at the Mabel Lake Golf Course. He, also enjoyed participating in community events during the year. The winter months were spent in Palm Springs, where they could enjoy more golf and mild weather. Bob was a handy-man and a jack-of-all-trades. He could fix anything and was often called upon to do so. He was a man of many talents, including his love of antique cars, wood-working and drawing. Many family members were lucky enough to receive flying Canadian Geese, fishing rod lamps and pencil drawings. Bob was a beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is now our guardian angel watching over all of us from above.
