He was raised in Toronto, Ontario and remained there for many years to become a very successful and respected Boiler salesman.
He was married in 1965, and in 1969 his only daughter was born.
Kirk loved the outdoors. He built a cottage on the shores of Blackwater Lake in Northern Ontario in the early 70's. It was there he enjoyed ski-dooing, dirt biking and taking out his 64' Humber Jewel boat for late night cruises. He taught his daughter and many others how to water ski and welcomed any kid around the lake to join in on crazy water tube rides. He was a natural behind that boat wheel, and he always won the title of the "fastest boat on the lake".
Although Kirk was a very private person, what he enjoyed the most was people. He was a highly social man that possessed a charming, charismatic and unique personality. He was extremely witty, humorous and generous. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. A kind spirit with a huge heart. A man who was always in support of the underdog. He loved The Blues, smoky guitar sounds, a foot stomping country beat, and would sometimes belt out the best lines of a favourite song. For all of these reasons, the ladies loved him. They also loved his good looks and how he moved on a dance floor. Kirk was the "captain" of every party.
Kirk garnered many friendships in his life. Some long and some short, but all were meaningful to him. He wasn't the best at keeping in touch if you weren't in his daily life, but you can be sure that he thought about you often. He didn't want to play a part in bringing about sadness, so goodbyes were always tough for him.
We are now saying goodbye to Kirk one last time, but we must try not to do it with a sad and heavy heart. That is not what Kirk would have wanted. He never wanted to be a burden to anyone in his living life, and he wouldn't want to leave his life knowing that he has filled us with tears of sorrow. What we must do is remember everything about Kirk that made us smile. And with that, we can raise a glass to him and offer our thanks to him. A thanks for the pleasure of having been in our lives. He will be missed dearly.
There is a quote of his that I would like to share with you as it has remained with me for many years. It has also served me well.
"If you ever want to know about a person....meet their dog first"
