OBITUARY

Rodney Paul Hanner

July 3, 1957 – August 17, 2024
Obituary of Rodney Paul Hanner
IN THE CARE OF

South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium

Rodney Paul Hanner, age 67, of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

It is with great sadness that we share that we have lost Rod suddenly.

Loved by his family and friends, he was taken far too soon and will be dearly missed. Family was important to him; he would stop whatever he was doing if his family or friends needed help.

“Just call me Rod!” — That was his favourite greeting when meeting people; he loved to meet new people. He deeply cared about others and will be remembered for his friendly spirit.

Rod was very active in Cadets in his teens, receiving many awards and medals for his dedication. His biggest achievement was being selected for the Rifle Team and being sent overseas to England for the annual Bisley Competition.

In his adult years, he was an avid collector of many things. His biggest passion was drag racing; for forty-five years he embraced his passion of cars, starting as a teenager when he would cruise downtown with his friends.

Over the years, Rod owned and operated many businesses, deciding to retire in 2007 to enjoy life to the fullest. He did just that with Karen by his side. They travelled together extensively over the years, and Rod always loved to find little hole-in-the-wall restaurants to try.

Rod has left behind his wife Karen, together thirty-two years to the day of his passing, as well as his father Paul, Brad (brother), and his children Kylie and Paul. His late mother, Audrey, and sister, Debrah, will be meeting him at the gates to show him the ropes.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Make a Wish Foundation in Rod’s honour.
