Roger Astall

February 11, 1946October 13, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roger Astall who passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 13th, 2020. Roger is survived by his two daughters Debbie (Tracy) and Julie (Kevin) and five grandchildren, Jackson, Hunter, Sarah, Brooke and Damon; his brother Derek (Glenys) and many relatives and friends back home.

Roger will always be remembered for his charming and quirky sense of humour as he found humour in just about anything (even through his illness) love for music, animals and loved a good pint!

Roger’s career led him to move his family from England, to Holland, to California and finally settling in Calgary in the early 80’s where he continued his work as a professional engineer. He retired from a profession he loved and was able to pursue his love of travelling which took him to Dubai, England, Czech Republic, Arizona, and California to name a few.

“There are places I’ll remember All my life, through some have changed Some forever, not for better Some have gone, and some remain All these places had their moments With lovers and friends, I still can recall Some are dead, and some are living In my life, I’ve loved them all” - The Beatles.

A private family service will be held. In 2021, a Celebration of Life event will be held and in addition a tree will be planted in his honor at The Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Calgary Humane Society on behalf of Roger as this was near and dear to his heart.

I had the good fortune to work with Roger, and found him to be very knowledgeable and a real pleasure to work with. More importantly we became friends outside of work, where a group of us had a lot of fun(too much fun?!) relieving the stress of work. Roger's friendship and incredible sense of humour helped me through a trying period of my life. Thanks old friend. See you on the other side.

I worked with Roger at Fluor for a few yrs in the 1980 / 1990s His sense of humor was unprecedented lHe always called a spade a spade.
We. had many fun times at work and often socially and a few times watching England Euro or World Cup footie games in a bar at lunchtime and both deciding it would be better if we did not return to work. A few more beers were then consumed. Well many more ! The good old days.!
He will be sadly missed and I would like to express my condolences to all Rogers family in these difficult times.
RIP Roger

I would like to send my sincere condolences to Rogers family.
Roger was my partner for 5 years till late summer of 2016.
I gave him all my love, we traveled together, we laughed and cried together.
I will never forget a wonderful person who was a big part of my life.

Dave and I would like to send our sincere condolences to Rogers family. We met Roger in Calgary in the 1980’s and spent many Friday nights with him and Jan in the Bonavista Inn. We loved his sense of humour and he had a lot in common with Dave as they both loved a pint. We hadn’t seen him for some years as we moved to BC but were sad to hear of his illness and then of his passing. Rest In Peace Roger.

I am very saddened by Rogers passing , we were married for 32 years but we divorced in 2003.
Roger loved music, he was playing in a band when we first met.
Cars was also a big hobbie of his, there wasn’t a motor he couldn’t fix .
1982 we came to Canada with our two daughters Julie and Debbie. We also have four grandchildren Brooke , Hunter, Sarah, and Jackson.
Roger you were taken from this earth to soon.
