Ron was born December 23, 1929 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He enjoyed a happy childhood on the farm near Simmie, Saskatchewan with his parents Charlie and Ida and younger brothers Tommy and Harry. He moved to Kelowna, British Columbia in 1944 where he married Fern, the love of his life, in 1952. They moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2013 to be nearer to family.
Ron greeted everyone he met with his welcoming spirit and lovely smile. He loved his work, finishing his career as manager of Yellow Deere Sales in Kelowna. He also loved spending time with friends, whether square dancing, camping or playing cards. Most of all, he loved his family. We all relied on his steady strength and great big hugs.
Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife Fern and son Neil McKenzie and will be deeply missed by brother Tom McKenzie, daughters Debbie Stockdale (Mike) and Devray Lafferty (Gary), daughter-in-law Beverley Ivens (Kevin Laflamme), and grandchildren Lindsay Stockdale (Sébastien Fallu), James Stockdale, Justin Lafferty (Shannon Scott), Rebecca Kenny (Mike), Hannah McKenzie and treasured great-grandchildren Caleb, Téo, Sloane and Bryn. Ron was also a favourite uncle and a great friend to many.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Intercare Brentwood who cared for Ron so well in his last few years.
There will be no service at this time. Interment will take place in Kelowna at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
