Ross passed suddenly on Sunday, August 7, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 67 surrounded by his family.
Ross is survived by his daughter Allison (Schane); his siblings Gordon (Lissi), Brenda, Kevin (Jennifer), Karen (Bob), and Mike (Norine); his nieces Jaylene (Elliott) and Heather (Derrick), his nephews Jason and Kyle (Jessica & Kinsley); and his overwhelming number of friends he considered close family members.
Ross was a true born and bred Calgarian, and grew up in Highland Park, Calgary with his 5 siblings. He was a free spirit and kept his family on their toes with his antics, if they weren’t joining in themselves. Ross and his brothers drove their mom nuts with fixing engines and detailing cars right beside the house. They never seemed to find anything strong enough to soak up all the brake, tranny and radiator fluids. Motorcycles, hot cars, wheelies, fishtails and burnouts were the norm on 34th Avenue, much to the dismay of their neighbour Wilf Kaulback. The neighbourhood supported the Legge family by taking it all in stride though. The phrase “There go the Legge Boys and their friends again” was likely used more than it should’ve been.
Ross attended St. Francis High School and still maintained close friendships with his school friends, even recently reconnecting with old friends and meeting his current girlfriend, Maureen at a high school reunion. Ross had an infectious spirit, always meeting and making new friends wherever he went in life. He was never one to follow a straight and steady path and was always on the lookout for the next big idea or plan and followed wherever his heart led him instead. This led to a life of great adventure for Ross, but also loss and hardship. Ross was never one to quit and kept his head high onto his next path in life. He was proud, hardworking, and always believed in his abilities to tackle any task in front of him. Ross was the go-to handy man for many friends, working on renovations and building maintenance where he was a mentor to many and always found creative fixes to any problem due to his curiosity and quick thinking. He was a journeyman electrician and graduated from SAIT. This was a very proud accomplishment for Ross since he was never considered an exemplary student growing up. He was the kid getting in trouble with teachers; smoking in the parking lot and racing one of his many cars with friends instead of attending class, but he always kept everyone laughing with his quick wit.
Ross worked at the City of Calgary maintaining traffic signals and electrical equipment, where he met Cathie who had just moved to the city from Winnipeg. They both had a spirit for adventure and although their marriage didn’t last, they created a life full of great memories and raised their daughter with the same passion for life. Ross was a loving father who always made sure to remind his daughter he loved her and tell her how proud he was of her, instilling in her that she could do or be anything. He always took her with him and the boys out quading, boating, skiing, and camping, or even to the jobsites (which were usually just one of the many houses he would renovate in the Banff Trail community). Ross loved the outdoors and was happiest on a quad or motorcycle in the mountains. He loved skiing and even gave snowboarding a try with Allison and Mike. His snowboarding career was short-lived, but Ross was never one to pass up trying something at least once.
Ross was loved by many and his passing will leave a lasting hole in the hearts of his friends and family members. He will be forever in our hearts and memories doing his favorite activities like riding his motorcycle to BC, climbing mountain tops with his quad, enjoying popcorn and a Big Gulp of Pepsi, scouring the Bargain Finder or Kijiji for the best deals, eating #23 pizza at Tinos and steaks at the Cactus Club, or sharing his many opinions and ideas with anyone who would listen. Love you Ross, Rosco, Little Man, Light Weight, Dad. Save us a seat with you where you end up. ♡
