He was born on October 26, 1953, in Izraa, Daraa, Syria. A brilliant student, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow Institute of Technology and graduated with top honours and distinction with both a bachelors and masters in 1980. Moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1995 allowed him to launch an extremely successful 30-year career as a project manager for mechanical engineering projects in the Oil and Gas sector. He was widely sought out for his infinite knowledge, expertise, and impeccable work ethic. His ability to turn any project into a success was widely noted.
Salti was known for his generosity and selflessness. A tribute to his name, he was truly the ‘Salt of The Earth’. Despite being highly accomplished, he was the picture of humility and served as not only a strong family man, but as a community leader. His dedication to servitude was evident by his perpetual church attendance, and his execution of Christian values in his everyday life. The most prominent example of his selfless nature came with his sponsorship of over 25 Syrian refugees. As a sponsor, Salti went above and beyond what was expected, housing over 5 families in his own home. He quite literally would give the shirt off his back to help others, and never expected even a thank you in return.
A gifted speaker and charismatic conversationalist, anyone who has met Salti can unanimously agree he is not easily forgotten. Salti enjoyed taking long walks through Confederation Park while conversing with his daughters about a myriad of topics, from science, to politics, history, and current world events. His wisdom, alongside his intellect were gifts his daughters never took for granted.
A dedicated family man, Salti’s best memories were formed within his immediate family, with his wife Lamees, and daughters Sara, Laura, and Donna. From family road trips to Kelowna, Christmas spent in New York, or even casual drives to McKay’s in Cochrane for ice cream, Salti was always ensuring comfort, security and fun for his family.
He is survived by his wife and daughters and will be eternally missed by them. A true keystone of the family, his loss will be felt by many, as his kindness, generosity, and impact touched innumerable souls.
Though God has called him back, Salti will be immortalized in memory. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.
