Salvatore Bernardo

Salvatore, Mafalda and three children moved to Canada in December of 1968 seeking opportunities for the betterment of the family. Settling first in Golden, British Columbia, after growing by two more the family moved to Calgary in 1976. Salvatore worked for the railroad, a lumber processing plant, and ended his career working for Rolling Mix Concrete in Calgary.

Salvatore was a gentle and loving soul that constantly put family above all else. He enjoyed fishing as well as watching sports like soccer and hockey, alongside his companion Pinto. Salvatore was happiest at family gatherings, the bigger the better, where he never turned down a card game, with Rummoli being a regular favourite.

Salvatore is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mafalda Bernardo; children Toni Rombough (Perry), Franca Bunz (Ron), Ivan Bernardo (Daria), Alec Bernardo (Andrea) and Isabella Doyle (Garth); grandchildren Lisa Shauer (Dustin), Joel Rombough (Katie), Marco Bernardo (Kaitlyn), Andrew Doyle (Charly), Aaron Bernardo, Matthew Bunz (Axee), Katie Bernardo (Sebastien), Joshua Doyle (Sarah), and Abigail Bernardo; great grandchildren Arianna and Ryan Shauer and Bria Rombough; and one sister.

Salvatore was predeceased by his parents, Alessandro and Antonia; two brothers; one sister; and a daughter-in-law, Carolynne Bernardo.

A Funeral Service for Salvatore will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel & Funeral Home (3220 4 Street NW, Calgary) at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of their choice.
