Only came across this when doing one of those "down memory lane" sorta things and look up the people you once knew, who had drifted out of ones life, for whatever reason. Sorry to hear abour yuir passing, Shannon. We knew each the other for so little a time, a relationship in 1992 just before I joined the military, but I took that big old heavy hardcover copy of Duncton Wood along with me to Croatia, and later read the tales to my daughter. I still have it, sitting on my bookshelf, nearly thirty years later. 

Id thot of reaching out, quite a few times, had written you letters from Somalia and the Balkans, from Cyprus and Tuktuyuktuk. They never got sent, lost somewhere along the way, but I never did forget you. You were a bluidy supernova, with a wit immeasurable. Even when we were together, I knew it couldnt last because I couldnt keep up to you. When I came home, I changed my name and moved across the continent, running from the ghosts of war, and Id meant to reach out, more than once, and hesitated. 

Wherevr you are now, I hope the music is good and that stacy kiebler isnt allowed in. (smiles) To Shannon's family, my deepest condolences in her loss. I loved her once, but not enough. She left impressions on my life, however (favorite author, the time she and I got to dance on stage with sarah mclaughlin) that have persisted thru the decades



Hi I am Shannon’s  nephew and I did not make it to her funeral as my brother and sister did. I am deeply sorry and regret it. I did not know my auntie very well but still loved her, everyone she met loved her, she was that kind of person that everyone loved even though she was going down the wrong path. I did not make it to her funeral because I was disappointed at my mom and it was 2 weeks since I ran away and not even a week after I had surgery on my ear. One of my biggest regrets was not knowing you better and not coming to your funeral. I am greatly sorry. I wish I could turn back time and change our relationship, and help you get through your sickness, but I can’t and I’m very sorry for letting you down auntie. I miss you and I wish you were still here. Please auntie if your reading this I am very sorry and I miss you greatly. I love you 

I was deeply saddened to learn of Shannon's passing. Although I haven't seen Shannon in many years now, she has remained  dear to my heart all this time. We became close in junior high school and I will never forget what her friendship meant to me during and following that time. I remember Shannon as someone who was always quick to flash a disarming smile, which instantly made me want to get to know her.  Being Shannon's friend meant often being caught up in her wicked  sense of humour, and her love of laughter and free-spiritedness made it so easy to spend time with her and to feel included. I thought she was totally amazing and I truly admired her. I know I wasn't the only one.
When my family moved away from Alberta in 1988, it was really tough to leave the only home I'd known and it was particularly hard to part ways with Shannon, who had become a really special friend to me.  I'm imagining that she would have laughed out loud at being called "special friend", but there is no way I can better frame it.  I can say quite honestly that the show of support that Shannon showed to me by exchanging many letters with me as I settled into my new home in Ontario was a tremendous consolation during a time of personal difficulty;  this is one of the many reasons I'll always remember her kindness and thoughtfulness. 
I want to extend my sincere condolences to Shannon's family during what must be a terribly challenging time. Shannon was such a beautiful person and her passing is a loss much too great and experienced far too soon.  I will never, ever forget my beautiful, special friend. I am sending so much love and support to you all. 

We are so sorry to hear of Shannon's passing. We met Shannon when she worked at Sam the Record Man with Jason. She was so kind, and so full of laughter. When we had our son, Shannon and the staff at Sam's bought him his first Christmas Stocking in 1998. He still uses it, and every Christmas when he puts it out we think of Shannon. 
Rest in peace Shannon, and to her family, may you find comfort in knowing what an amazing impact she had on those lucky enough to have known her.

Thanks for being my friend, Shannon. You gave me a place to sleep when i needed one and you were there when I was lonely. I don't know if you knew how important that was for me. I don't know if I knew how important that was for me.
