Sharon was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec to Vera and Alton Montgomery on March 27, 1945. She married John William Ridley Howe on June 19, 1965 in Lytton, BC. Sharon attended school in Kamloops, BC. She went on to attend Saint Ann’s Academy to obtain a typing certificate. Sharon worked at a number of jobs including as a bank teller in Lytton, BC. After moving to Calgary in 1966 she worked at Kmart, McDonalds and the Woolco Smoke shops in a variety of locations.
As a young girl Sharon enjoyed many adventures with her best friend, Wendy Cassel. Sharon’s dad purchased a small Honda bike that the girls rode for miles and miles. She had an impressive collection of teapots, teddy bears and numerous stuffed animals. Sharon was an avid animal lover and her numerous pets included a crow named Dicky, a cat named Grandma Chirp and another cat named Bear. She loved her bears.
Sharon loved outdoor activities including camping, barbeques, picnics (she was known by nieces and nephews because she always provided chips and dips), and walking her dogs. She was recognized when she went swimming because she had a very distinctive lime green polka dot bathing suit.
When asked how she was, Sharon would reply “I’m still kicking”. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke, some of them colourful and could always make people laugh.
