Sam was born in Heerhugowaard, Noord Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1949 when he was 18 years old. He married his loving wife, Maria "Riet" in 1961 in Beiseker, AB, and they had 58 wonderful and inseparable years together. He was the proud father of three children and three grandchildren.
Sam worked very hard at everything he did. He successfully started his own welding business in 1976, which he happily saw his two sons join and continue to expand. Through his business, Sam created many friendly and lasting relationships over the years. He continued to stop in at Bow Ridge every day to visit his sons and see if there were any errands he could help with right up until a few days before he became ill. Sam was devoted to his family, and through his never-ending hard work, patience and love, provided both house and home for them. When he was not working Sam enjoyed gardening in his beautiful yard, and spending time with his family at their cabin in Blind Bay, BC, creating many happy memories.
Sam will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Riet, sons Edwin and Brian (Monique), daughter Carol (Gerard), and his grandchildren Travis, Jordan (Kaelyn) and Devyn, as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Sam is also survived by his brothers Nick (Nancy) and Gerard (Ann), brother-in-law Bill, sister-in-law Rie Bruinsma and sister-in-law Bernice. He was predeceased by his siblings Jany, Tony, Jany, Willem, Corry, Grace, Piet, Jan, Anny and Jake.
