Sophie Mulikow passed away peacefully with her children at her side, at the Edgemont Retirement Centre on Friday, July 15, 2022, one week shy of 89 years. She was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan to Dan and Katherine. She married her friend and love, John Mulikow in 1961.
Sophie loved to sing, play guitar, entertain and feed all who came to the house. “Band Mom” was who she was known as, to the members of the band her boys played in. She often showed up at the house during practice and the Halloween gigs to support and cheer them on. She enjoyed her garden and was happy to share any of her canned goods after harvest. Anyone who came to visit, never walked away hungry as she always made more than enough food to feed the whole neighbourhood. She was a master cook in her kitchen. Sophie also had a talent for crocheting, whether it be a doily, afghan or Barbie clothes. She welcomed any assistance with the puzzle that was often on the dining room table, and she adored her cats. Sophie loved to do a little traveling, with Nashville being one of her favorite places. While living at Edgemont, she played guitar and sang in the lounge most Fridays, for about 8 years. She touched the hearts of many who lived and worked there, past and present. Her friendly, kind and somewhat cheeky disposition will be greatly missed by all.
In her younger days, Sophie was a hostess and waitress at several different restaurants from Ontario to Alberta. She worked hard, played hard and made several friends along the way that she kept in touch with. Once her children were born, she was a stay-at-home mom for some time. When she and we were ready, she returned as a hostess at the restaurant in the Beacon Hotel for a couple of years. She ended her career hand making perogies and cabbage rolls at Sara's Perogy Hut. A place she really enjoyed working.
Sophie is lovingly remembered by her children John and Shelly (Jim); her grandchildren Jason, Sydney, Katie, Ted, Julia (Ward), Eric; plus 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, her sisters Lena and Darlene (Wayne); she was predeceased by her husband John in 2000 and her son Dan in 1995. All of these she loved from the bottom of her heart.
As per Sophie's request, a private family graveside service will be held.
My mind still talks to you,
My heart still looks for you,
But my soul knows you are at peace.
