Stan was born on June 13, 1922 in Lublin, Poland. He and his beloved wife, Tanja, immigrated to Canada in 1949. After working as a labourer on farms, as a coal miner and a barber, at 34 years of age he went to University. Stan then entered the teaching profession in 1958, where he was a teacher and administrator for the Calgary Board of Education until his retirement in 1987. Upon his retirement, Pops engaged in his hobbies of reading, bridge, walking everywhere, and puttering with his various projects inside and outside of the house. This included the building of an amazing tree level series of bridges and roof top forts for his grandchildren. He was also a constant in all of his grandchildren's lives, walking them to and from school in their elementary years. Pops just loved his grandkids. They had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of Pop’s life every day of their lives. Stan was fortunate to be able to live at home up to the last week before his passing, which is something for which we are all very grateful. He shared the values of honesty, hard work, and being supportive of his sons and his grandchildren.
Stanley will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Tanja; sons George (Ellie), Jim (Dinah) his grandchildren: Nick, Annie, Katie, Danny, great nieces Charlotte, Sakura, great nephew Al, and nephew John Seberg. He was predeceased by his father, Michael, his mother, Lydia, and his faithful dog, Oscar.
We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful staff on unit 81 at the Rockyview General Hospital for the exceptional care they provided in his final days.
