Steve was born January 7,1937 in a drafty old farmhouse on Section 19, Township 11, Range 12, West of the 2nd Meridian near Osage and Fillmore SK. He passed away peacefully at his home in Calgary on October 2, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Family and friends who appreciated and respected his quiet gentle ways came to say "Au Revior".
He attended school in Regina and then worked at Burns, Percival Mercury and NCR Canada. As a bachelor, he enjoyed waterskiing with his friends in the Qu'Appelle Valley at Regina Beach. In 1974, Steve was transferred to Calgary and he worked with NCR Canada until his retirement in 1993. He devoted many hours to his hobbies, building and flying model airplanes and pleasure riding Quarter Horses. In his retirement, he donated numerous volunteer hours with his John Deere tractor working for the Calgary Radio Aero Modelers Society, High Country Carriage Driving Club and Pipe Dream Ranches.
Steve is survived by Janet, his loving wife of fifty-one years. He was predeceased by his parents Martin and Beatrice Schaefer of Regina. His parents were the first and second generation descendants of immigrants from the Odessa region of Russia, aka "The Black Sea Germans".
In accordance with Steve's wishes, no services will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, memorial donation may be directed to the Hangar Flight Museum or The Naval Museum of Alberta Society.
