At 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, with her husband by her side, Sunny Jeannette Hoffmann took her last breath on this earth, crossed over and is now at peace. She is survived and tremendously loved by her husband of 56 years, Robbert; daughters Monique and Laurette (Rick) and granddaughters Shelby and Brittany. Sunny will also be sadly missed by her brother Ronald (Ellie), his daughters Karen (Nick and family) and Nicole (Jim); cousins in Holland, Tineke, Martin (Toya and family); as well as brother-in-law Henk (Lina and their son Anthony). She was predeceased by her brother Robbie. Sunny was born in Batavia, Dutch East Indies on September 4, 1931. In 1952, she moved to Holland to study. There she met her future husband, and they married in 1960. In 1967, the family immigrated to Canada and made Calgary their home. Sunny’s family meant everything to her. Wherever Sunny went, she held court; she always lit up the room. Her kindness, laughter and sense of humour captivated everyone and drew people near her. All who knew her had fond memories of the parties she would throw with her best friend Irma, which they would cook for days for. She loved her dogs, Kaila, Astin and Brandi and enjoyed their company immensely. Sunny loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with family and friends to Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Holland. She was very artistic and creative, everything she did she was exceptional at. She sewed both of her daughter’s wedding dresses, winning best in show competitions for both dresses. Sunny was very active in the Girl Guides for many years and had a good time at numerous camps with her daughters. She enjoyed the opera and was a season ticket holder for many years. The family would like to thank all of the incredible doctors and nurses who have taken such wonderful care of Sunny in the last six months, including the staff at the Foothills Hospital Special Services fifth floor; the Peter Lougheed Center, Unit 49; as well as all the amazing caregivers at Bowcrest and Newport Harbour Care Centers. At Sun’s request a Celebration of her Life will be held at the Crestmont Residents Hall, 12400 Crestmont Blvd S.W., on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110 Ave S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
