Terrance Joseph Patrick O’Flaherty passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Monday, June 12, 2023, after a valiant and courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Terry lived his life full of optimism and fought his cancer with this same optimism for the past 18 months.
Terry worked his entire adult life in the trades and was a Journeyman Plumber who obtained his Gold Seal in Project Management with the Canadian Construction Association in October, 2017. Terry was passionate about always expanding his knowledge and completed endless educational courses. Terry was Senior Project Manager with his ‘other family’, Centurion Mechanical.
Outside of work and keeping with his fighting Irish spirit, Terry was also involved with the martial arts and obtained his 2nd Dan in Taekwondo with his daughter, Stephanie, in 2010 through the Pacific Coast Taekwondo School in British Columbia. He took great pride in watching his daughter take down competitors and would regularly be seen on the sidelines saying, “That’s my girl!”
Terry believed in giving back to the trades that made him so successful and wanted to make things better for the mechanical industry. Terry was President of the MCA Alberta, Director of MCA Canada, past Director of the Calgary Construction Association and worked on the Building Sub-Safety Code Council of Alberta.
Terry’s organization skills were notorious and his enthusiasm for colour coding, itemizing, “numericalizing”, making back-ups to the back-ups and completing detailed summaries will be missed by both family and colleagues. We are all very confident that Terry is currently implementing a complete organizational system in his new home.
Terry leaves behind his wife and soulmate, Kathy; mother, Margaret; children, Stephanie (Cody), Alexander, Samantha (Ryan); granddaughter, Kianna; and his grandpuppy, Montana. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph, and brothers, Stephen and Phillip.
The family would like to thank Anthony and Bev Kelly from Centurion Mechanical along with ATB Financial for all the support provided to Terry and his family for these past 18 months. You hold a special place in all our hearts. To the doctors and nurses at SkyPointe Hospice, thank you for treating Terry with such dignity and respect.
A Celebration of Life for Terry will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) (https://aarcs.ca/ ) or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network of Canada (PanCan) (https://pancreaticcancercanada.ca/).
