Terry is lovingly remembered by his mother Beverly, his daughter Mandy (Dave)Watts, two grandchildren Nolan and Ella, his sister Cindy(Kevin)Speer, nephews Connor and Kyle, niece Angela, uncles, aunts and cousins. Terry was predeceased by his father Harvey in 2007.
Terry Ross Woit was born and raised in Southwest Calgary. He enjoyed family summer vacations to Penticton where he played in the pool with his sister Cindy. He attended Cochrane High School after the family moved out to Bearspaw Village.
Terry was very involved in sports when he was young. Hockey, skiing and golf were some of his favourite activities. He played hockey from an early age and winter evenings would find him walking with his stick over his shoulder down to the community outdoor rink. Although suffering several injuries playing hockey, he continued to play into adulthood, cherishing his friendships with his teammates and the camaraderie of the sport. Downhill skiing was another sport Terry enjoyed. Living close to the mountains allowed him many opportunities to ski and he became quite an accomplished skier. After starting out as a caddy, Terry became an avid golfer and took part in many tournaments over the years. In all sports Terry was very competitive and a good sportsman.
Another interest Terry had growing up was dirt biking. Like hockey, it was another good opportunity to be injured. Once he was sixteen and got his driver’s license this interest transformed into a love of muscle cars.
In adulthood, Terry enjoyed the outdoors and travel. He had a regular spot at Westward Ho, a campground in Sundre, where he kept a trailer. This was “his cabin” where he enjoyed weekends with a great group of friends. Over many years they canoed, barbequed and partied around the campfire. He often travelled to Mexico and liked it so much he was considering spending the winters there in his retirement. He spent three weeks in Mexico this winter and really enjoyed himself. Although having a bad hip and some arthritis he was still active and adventurous.
After high school, Terry became a Journeyman Electrician and a building operator. He had a strong work ethic and after gaining a wealth of experience was supervising large scale commercial installations like the Foothills Trauma and Surgical Suites in Calgary.
Terry was sensitive and had a kind and generous heart. Family was very important to him. Although he never married, he was fortunate that one of his relationships produced a wonderful daughter named Mandy. Terry had a great love for Mandy. He was very happy to see her married to Dave and thrilled with his two grandchildren, Nolan and Ella. He was grateful to have them in his life.
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
