Thomas (Tom) Richard Groves, beloved husband, father, grandfather and wonderful friend, passed away quietly on Monday, December 29, 2025. Born in Strathmore, Alberta on May 5, 1938, Tom was the fifth child of seven siblings. His life was a testament to love, loyalty and dedication to those he held dear. He is survived by his loving wife Ella, his three children Tom (Leanne), Trevor and Louise (Trevor) and three cherished grandchildren Davis, Donovan and Ryan.
A strong, hard working farm boy through and through, Tom preferred being busy to being idle and found great joy in helping others. He was a man of many talents who loved using his skills to assist anyone in need. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he treasured his time both playing and officiating. He spent most of his career in sales for Ontor Ltd. and had a gift of creating long-term relationships; his customers were loyal to the company because they were loyal to Tom.
Tom was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and husband. His deep and abiding love was most evident in his 63 years of marriage to Ella. She was the light of his life and he was dedicated to her with his heart and soul. Their story was one of true love which endured hardships and soared with the joys of a life entwined.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer Calgary (www.alzheimercalgary.ca), an organization that provided years of support for Tom and Ella as they managed through his journey with dementia.
