Tina Kennedy (nee Mele)

July 28, 1949February 17, 2021

Caterina (Tina) Maria Kennedy (nee Mele) passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the age of 71 years.

Caterina (Tina) Maria Kennedy (Mele) was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy on July 28, 1949. In 1956, Tina along with her younger brother John and mother excitedly boarded a ship to migrate to Canada to join their Father. Tina was always feisty and had an infectious zest for life. She was a star on the ship. Stories circulated around the boat about the little curly haired girl that loved to dance.

Their new life in Canada was not easy but with close family and community ties as well as a strong work ethic the family grew. Soon Tina and John would be joined by two more sisters, Rosa, and Anna. Tina loved her siblings dearly and enjoyed the older sister role. Tina eventually started a family of her own and passed along this strong family connection, and unconditional love to her own children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life Tina was revered for her culinary skills as well as her natural talent for gardening. Tina was loved by everyone she met. Her warm and welcoming demeanor put people at ease and if that did not work, a belly full of delicious food would usually do the trick.

Tina was always quick to laugh and smile and would do anything for family and friends. Completely unselfish in her actions Tina did everything for others with careful thought, empathy, and love. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.

Tina is survived by her husband, Glenn Kennedy; her children, Kim Lamoureux (Patrick), Karen Malick-Kalk (Chad), John Malick (Jennifer), and Jamie Kennedy; her Grandchildren Alyssa, Abby, Harper, and Bradley.

Tina is also survived by her siblings John Mele (Dianne), Anna Grobowsky (Ken) and Rosa Viani (Rob); her uncle Salvatore Spadafora; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws.

She was predeceased by her father Domenico Mele, and her mother Teresa Mele.

Due to Covid restrictions a private family memorial will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL.

In Lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222.

I am very sorry for your families loss of such an amazing lady. Tina gave me the best haircuts I have ever had for years in her basement salon. There is so many great memories and stories with her and Glenn, that I will always cherish. She was always very generous, kind and willing to help out whenever possible. Tina is now in heaven but will never be forgotten and a piece of her lives on in all of you!

John and Tina's family:
It has been many years since I last saw Tina, and I am saddened to learn of her passing. We first met at Balmoral Jr. Hi. where John and I were grade seven brats and Tina was a much older wiser grade eight. She was a no nonsense, young lady that even at that age never took guff from anyone. Looking back on it I think that she protected her young brother from the thugs at that school. My sympathy goes out to the whole family as Tina was a lovely person.
